We Miss You Grandmom!!

Caden and Addie had their last visit with their Great Grandmom Thorpe before she left for Arizona a couple weeks ago. She had a great time playing with Caden and Addie and she is really going to miss them while she is gone! We are already looking forward to her return in 6 weeks :)

Washburn Visitors!

Caden had an appointment with Dr. Bob today to check out his breathing. Dr. Bob said he sounds pretty good but we should continue with the nebulizer treatment for at least another week. While we were there we asked about the rash between his chin(s) and his neck and Dr. Bob said it looked like it was fungal so he prescribed a cream for us to apply 3 times a day. My favorite part was when he said, "don't worry...this happens often to babies with more fat." Hehe ;)

Aunt Skylar came down to visit last weekend and we had a great time visiting with her! We can't wait until she moves to NYC this fall because she will be even closer :) And it it will give us a good excuse to take Caden to the city so she can show us around. This first picture is awesome...if you look closely you can see the big ring of drool down his onesie...

Beautiful Aunt Cathy was in town last week for her annual conference in Princeton so she came over for dinner on Sunday night. We had so much fun catching up with her and she had a great time with Caden! Hopefully we'll see her, Uncle Andy, and Alexander this summer in Maine since we'll be there the same week :)

Caden's First Easter!

Caden was a great sport on Easter considering how sick he was feeling. He began to get a little cough on Tuesday and when we saw Dr. Bob on Thursday, he said his lungs sounded fine but to bring him back if he got a lot worse. He seemed to be okay until Sunday morning when he woke up with a terrible cough and trouble breathing because he was wheezing so much. We called the Doctor's office and Dr. Shaw told us to bring him in so he could listen to him so we went to the office all dressed up for Easter brunch! Dr. Shaw was awesome, of course, and told us we needed to treat Caden with the nebulizer until his cough was gone. Two days later it is already sounding much better! Caden didn't like the neb at first, but he has gotten much better at sitting still while we hold the mask against his face. We let him watch cartoons or we get Gracie and Rigger to come give him kisses which distracts him enough that he forgets about the neb. We have another appointment for Thursday when we'll find out how much longer we have to give Caden his treatments.

My favorite part of Easter was seeing what the Easter Bunny brought for Caden in his Easter basket :) He got 3 new books...all about bunnies...and a chocolate and peanut butter bunny that Mommy had to eat. Caden liked playing with the grass in the basket and he kept trying to put it in his mouth. For brunch we went to the Murtaugh's house. Caden didn't do much playing with the other kids, but it was still fun to see everyone and very impressive because Joe made all the food himself!

Baby Cereal!

Caden got his first bite of baby cereal Friday, April 15th. It's just taken a while to get the photos up because I lost the cord to connect my camera to the computer...oops! It has been so much fun feeding Caden real food! The first couple days we made it very runny, so it was tough for him to keep much of it in, but he definitely enjoyed it. He was opening his mouth for more before the spoon got back to the cup! Once we started making the cereal thicker, Caden was able to swallow spoonfuls at a time. We are now up to 2 servings a day and he is doing a good job getting it in his mouth and into his tummy! We can't wait to try some vegetables later this week!

This was his first bite...how did he know he needed to open his mouth!?!?!?

This was the day before Caden got his first serving of cereal. We put him in his highchair but he was so tired that he fell asleep sitting up, so we decided to hold off until the next morning.

Finally Sleeping!

Caden loves his puppies and the older he gets the more he tries to interact with them. He reaches out to touch them when they are close enough and he thinks it's really fun when they give him kisses!

Caden still loves bath time! He is usually ready for his bath around 6:30 every night and he is then sleeping by 7:30 or 8:00. Caden has been sleeping much better since Friday night. He was at the point where he was waking up every 1-2 hours and Spencer and I finally decided it was time for him to learn how to put himself back to sleep. So for the first time in his little life, Caden cried for longer than 2 minutes and I'm sure it was harder for Mommy and Daddy than it was for him. The longest he cried for was probably 40 minutes, but he would cry and then stop-realize nobody was coming and then start crying again. Today is Monday and he is already at the point where he'll wake up and all we need to do is go in and give him his binky and he goes back to sleep. It's almost like we have a new baby! Call me crazy, but I kind of miss seeing him so much at night :(

Caden was playing in the mirror the other day, and while I'm sure he didn't realize it was his own reflection, it was still really cute! It's also a good shot at the back of his head...he looks like an old man with no hair back there!

Sleeping at nighttime must have been a big adjustment for Caden. Not only did he have to learn to sooth himself, but he also had to learn to sleep in his crib. Until this point, he was sleeping in his bouncy seat, swing, or car seat but Spencer and I decided we were not going to go through a tough adjustment more than once so we put him in his crib on Friday night. He already seems pretty content in there!

I think the most amazing part is that Caden went from eating every couple hours to eating only once at nighttime. The last 2 nights he has eaten around 4:00 and that holds him over until he wakes up for good around 7:00. BIG CHANGES!!!

Busy Spring!

Caden is a week away from being 5 months old and we find ourselves wondering how the time has passed so quickly...and why he still isn't sleeping! He seems to have regressed over the past couple weeks and lately he has been up every 1-2 hours at night. We plan to give him his first taste of baby cereal tomorrow morning, so maybe he'll sleep better once we can fill his belly with something more substantial than milk. During the day the little man has been a happy camper. He is doing a really job sitting up and playing with his toys, and he loves his exersaucer and his bouncy swing! We are also lucky enough to get lots of giggles out of him. When I went to pick him up after class at Amanda's today the two of us were just standing there talking and he started cracking up watching Amanda.

Between both of our jobs and family time, the Washburn family has been keeping themselves busy this spring! This group of photos is from last Friday when Grandmom Ferrari, Aunt Beanie, Aunt Jenny and Addie came to spend the day. I had class at 8:00, 9:00 and 2:00, and a meeting at 11:00, but I was able to spend a few hours at home and have lunch with them, and then we hung out after I was finished teaching for the day. Caden is really starting to notice faces and check people out...even little Addie! They were holding hands for a little while which was adorable :)

Play Time for Caden!

Caden looked awesome in Brody's hat earlier this week when they went down to play on the playground. He was happy as a clam when I met them down there after class! I think we need to invest in something to keep the sun out of his eyes because he seemed pretty content in Brody's hat!

Ryann is so cute when she is playing with Caden. She likes to make funny faces at him to try and get him to smile :) She is a really good big sister for Brody and Caden!

Amanda figured out how to get Caden to sleep at her place......the binky. Spencer and I tried the binky for a while when Caden was younger but we gave up and figured he didn't like it because he kept spitting it out or pretending like he was gagging. Well it turns out we were just not persistent enough because after enough tries with Amanda he decided it wasn't so bad after all!

This is Caden sound asleep on Amanda's lap. I can't get over how big he looks in this picture!

Still No Teeth!

Caden had another rough night last night so we were up every couple hours, but he somehow managed to be in a great mood today! He hung out with Mommy and Daddy at home until Mommy had to teach at 11:00, at which point he went to Amanda's house. She dropped him off in my classroom so I could nurse him during lunch and then he went home with her while I taught from 1:00-2:00. We had a busy afternoon filled with napping, walking the dogs, shopping for decorations for the dance Saturday night and making enchilada casserole for dinner. Daddy came home in time for a bath and a fire drill :)

The outfit Caden has on in these photos is a Ferrari classic. It was worn by Cousin Jon and Uncle Colson! It is definitely a summer outfit and it has Paddington Bear on the front...I don't think it will fit him come the summer time, so we got it on him today.

I couldn't resist posting this picture...all you can see is CHEEKS!

Caden is doing a great job sitting up and he can balance himself for a few seconds before he topples over.

Caden didn't want to go to bed at his usual time tonight. Spencer and I both tried to put him down but he was wide awake so I put him in the Baby Bjorn and visited the girls in the dorm since I was on duty. This little man is going to be very spoiled from all the female attention he gets!! The girls love having conversations with him....he's such a little ham! Spence was finally able to get him to go down for the night at about 9:30. I expect we'll be seeing him again shortly ;)
