First Swim!!

Caden went swimming in his baby pool for the first time earlier this week and he loved it! He had a great time splashing around and he didn't seem to mind the cold water...he obviously doesn't take after his Mommy! Gracie invited herself in several times which is not surprising because until this summer we only filled up baby pools for her and Rigger! Of course Caden thought it was a great idea for the two of them to be in there together :)

First Tooth!!!

We've been watching Caden's two lower teeth for a couple months now because they have been white bumps under his gums and today his bottom right tooth finally popped through!! Spencer discovered it today while I was at graduation so I got to come home to an exciting surprise :) He has been a good sport and he hasn't been super fussy so we were both really surprised to see Caden's first tooth finally arrive! :)

Caden got to meet a bunch of Spencer's Princeton friends this weekend while they were here for Reunions. Bill was the only one who had met Caden before so they were all excited to meet the little man!

Trip to the Ferrari's!

Caden and Mommy went to Grandma and Grandpa's house when Daddy was at Sprints last weekend. He has gotten much better in the car and it's been a few weeks since he has cried when we went somewhere. While we were there he had fun playing with everyone....he was in a great mood and very social!

Aunt Rissi has lots of fun playing with Caden now that he can smile and laugh! She figured out quickly that he's a happy camper whenever the animals are around :)

Grandpop got to spend some QT with Caden until the baby snatcher (Grandmom) came home! He can't wait to take the little man fishing! Hopefully Grandpop will find the same awesome Snoopy bobbers he had for us when we were little :)

These are pictures of Caden waking up Uncle Colsi when we got there on Sunday. He was happy as a clam in bed with Colson and Axel! Good thing Gracie didn't see this.....she would be very jealous!

6 months!!!

It's so hard to believe that Caden is already 6 months old! Spencer and I have had so much fun getting to know our little man and he has brought so much love, excitement and joy into our lives!
We took Caden to see Dr. Bob yesterday and he is already weighing in at 19.5 oz and 26.5 inches long. He got 2 shots and we will go back for the other 2 in a couple weeks. He also got an oral vaccination which he seemed to enjoy....Dr. Bob was surprised by how much he liked it because he said babies at this age usually try to spit it out :) Caden has been doing great job eating, if you can't tell from the pictures ;) From month 5 to month 6 we stuck to cereal and vegetables and by the time he was 5 1/2 months he was eating 3 meals a day, 4-6 oz at a time. The only vegetable he didn't really love was asparagus (which is funny because I couldn't even stand the smell of asparagus when I was pregnant!). We started fruits a few days ago and so far he has enjoyed peaches and apricots!
Spencer and I have been busy with the end of classes and the end of racing season around the corner but we try to spend as much time outside as possible which Caden, Gracie, and Rig all enjoy. We bring a blanket to sit on and a bunch of toys out to Center Campus but instead of playing with his toys Caden prefers to watch the kids playing frisbee, or he watches Gracie run around like a nut. It is so cute to see how much he loves her!!
Caden has been doing much better at night....he goes down between 7 and 8, then he is up around 11, 3 and then up for good between 6 and 7. He's been taking 3 naps a day, anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours. We've been listening to the Unicorn story on CD while falling asleep which we all enjoy :)

Birthday!

Spencer and Caden did a great job surprising me on Thursday night by getting me the camera I've been wanting for a long time now :) I absolutely love it and I've already taken hundreds of pictures! Aunt Jenny, Aunt Bee, Addie and Grandmom came up on Friday and spent the day...I had 3 classes and a meeting so it was a busy day but it was fun to see them during my breaks! The evening was busy as well...Caden and I went down to supervise the sophomore class activity (kickball and Rita's) and then I had duty. Spence was in Massachusetts all weekend at Sprints where his boat did very well, finishing in second place, and he just got home. It sounds like it was a good weekend for the Washburns....congratulations on your races today Uncle Walker and Uncle Parker!!!

First Big Boy Bath!

Caden had his first big boy bath last week and I had to get these pictures up before they went into the archives! Caden, of course, loved being up to his belly in water and he was a great sport the whole time. Mommy and Daddy, on the other hand.........well I guess you could say it was pretty obvious that we were rookies. Spencer was video taping and I was making sure Caden didn't fall over (looking back, we probably should have switched jobs!).....but the little munchkin gets really slippery when he's all wet and once he started to squirm he squirmed right out of my hands and went face first into the water! I think his baby reflexes kicked in and he held his breath because he didn't choke, cry, or fuss when he came back up. He just blinked a bunch of times to try to get the water out of his eyes. The best part is that we have it all on video since Daddy was taping....we'll try to get it up so everyone can see. The second 2 pictures were after he went under which is why his face is all wet. Poor little man!

Broccoli?

Caden has been doing an awesome job with his vegetables! We've been pureeing vegetables for him to eat and today we tried some broccoli...he seemed to like it just as much as his carrots, sweet potatoes and peas! We have to buy the peas in a jar because we can't get them smooth enough in the food processor...any suggestions about how to make your own peas, baby food style?

Caden loves going to the Buchner's house while Mommy and Daddy are working! But who wouldn't right?? Between the attention he gets from Ryann and Amdanda, and the constant entertainment provided by Brody he is happy as a clam :)

Amanda took this picture when Caden fell asleep outside under a tree...he slept there for almost an hour! He's wearing his new Robeez from Uncle Hunter and Aunt Jenni which look so cute!

Nap time again at Amanda's house! This is Caden's outfit from Tia Sarah which is adorable...he looks like such a little man! Last night was rough for Caden because he woke up almost every hour. He would cry for about 5 minutes and then go back to sleep. Around 4:00 he woke up and wanted to eat so I nursed him and he went back to sleep until 6:00 when he was up for good. He went to bed around 8:00 tonight and has been seeping for almost 4 hours (I'm on duty which is why it's such a late night!).

Spencer and I were at Babies R Us this weekend and we got Tickle Me Elmo for Caden. We squeezed Elmo's belly in the store and Caden started laughing!! It was the first toy Caden has ever laughed at!

It is finally starting to feel like it's almost summer time here in Hightstown. Tonight while I was rocking Caden to sleep we could hear the hooting and hollering of the volleyball game going on on Center Campus, Spencer was grilling burgers, and it was still light outside! The three of us are excited for summer to arrive....Caden's first vacation will be the Outer Banks in June, then we will go to Maine (with Uncle Kiefer!) in July and Chincoteague in August. In between we will take day trips to the shore and keep ourselves occupied here on campus!

Best First Mother's Day Ever :)

Spencer, Caden, Gracie, and Rigger made sure I had a wonderful first Mother's Day today! Caden woke up around 6:00 and at 6:15 Caden and Spencer were in bed with me and all their Mother's Day gifts! They were so sweet! Spence got up and did some cleaning and took the pups out while Caden and I fell back to sleep in bed. He is so cute......he will stay in bed and snuggle with me as long as I'm in there...he probably would have been happy snuggling until noon but we had to get up and go to brunch! We went to the Cranbury Inn for brunch which was delicious, then we ran some errands in Princeton, and then we came home and took the dogs out to the football field to run around with Duke while we caught up with Katie and Chris for a couple hours. They are expecting in September so it was fun to talk baby stuff :) Caden was exhausted so he took a good nap on my lap and then Daddy's lap while we were out there. When we came back inside Caden had peas for the first time and he loved them! He finished 2 jars in about 5 minutes and wanted more but we decided 5 ounces of peas was enough for one night!

He has a set of 4 fabric blocks which are currently his favorite toys...he loves them!

Gracie and Rig had a great time running around with Duke!
